Matt’s photography career started in Yosemite in 1995. He was climbing a route on El Capitan and had brought an SLR camera with him. He and his partner spent 3 nights on the rock and he realized that he had to document this experience for his “non-climber” friends and family to see. From that day forward, photography became part of his lifestyle. He traveled around the country for the next 10 years or so living in his Volkswagen Westfalia and photographing his climbing adventures and doing occasional editorial work.
Eventually he landed back in his home territory of Lake Tahoe and went to school to receive a BFA in photography. He worked at the University of Nevada, Reno for three years managing various stock photography projects and collaborating on two books. One of which, he did the principle photography for. From 2004-2006 Matt and two other artists owned a gallery dedicated to the photographic medium.
In 2006 his focus led him away from the gallery and into wedding photography as the digital revolution had finally arrived.
Matt and his wife Tara got married in 2009 and their baby Zoe was born on Dec. 6th 2010. They live and play in the Tahoe area and love photographing weddings all over the country--and of course in their backyard!
Tara’s grandfather had always been a photographer and she grew up around a camera in upstate New York. Photography took a back seat when she went to college at University of Florida to run competitively. After her undergrad studies in Florida, Tara moved out west to Tucson, AZ where she went to grad school and where she became more interested in photography--the desert landscape was an inspiration! Her grandfather sent her his camera and she was hooked.
